This qualification reflects the role of individuals who work as bricklayers and blocklayers in the building and construction industry. Graduates apply technical knowledge and practical skills to construct, repair and maintain masonry structures for residential, commercial and civil construction projects. They work independently or as part of a team while interpreting construction drawings and specifications and completing work in accordance with industry standards and workplace procedures.
This qualification provides a pathway to employment as a Bricklayer, Blocklayer or Masonry Tradesperson with building contractors, construction companies and civil construction organisations. It may also provide opportunities for further study within the Construction, Plumbing and Services Training Package where entry requirements are met.
The skills and knowledge gained through this qualification must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth, State and Territory legislation, the National Construction Code (NCC), Australian Standards, workplace health and safety (WHS) requirements, and relevant industry codes of practice.
Licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements may apply in some States and Territories. Students should consult the relevant regulatory authority for the requirements applicable in their jurisdiction before undertaking work in the industry.
Twenty-eight (28) units, comprising twenty (20) core units and eight (8) elective units, are required for the award of the CPC33020 Certificate III in Bricklaying and Blocklaying. Units have been selected in accordance with the qualification packaging rules and are relevant to the qualification outcomes, local industry requirements and the AQF level.
