This qualification reflects the role of builders, site supervisors and construction professionals who apply specialised knowledge and technical skills to manage building projects across residential and commercial construction. Graduates develop the ability to plan, coordinate and supervise construction activities while ensuring compliance with contractual obligations, building regulations and workplace requirements.

This qualification provides a pathway to employment as a Builder, Construction Supervisor, Site Manager, Building Estimator or Project Coordinator within the building and construction industry. It may also provide opportunities for further study in higher-level qualifications related to construction management and project management.

The skills and knowledge gained through this qualification must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth, State and Territory legislation, the National Construction Code (NCC), Australian Standards, workplace health and safety (WHS) requirements, and relevant industry codes of practice.

Licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements may apply in some States and Territories. Students should consult the relevant regulatory authority for the requirements applicable in their jurisdiction before undertaking work in the industry.

Twenty-seven (27) units, comprising twenty-four (24) core units and three (3) elective units, are required for the award of the CPC50220 Diploma of Building and Construction (Building). Units have been selected in accordance with the qualification packaging rules and are relevant to the qualification outcomes, local industry requirements and the AQF level.

Entry Requirements
  • be at least 18 years of age and have completed Year 12 or equivalent

  • participate in a course entry interview to determine suitability for the course and student needs

  • have an IELTS* score of 6.0 (test results must be no more than 2 years old). English language competence can also be demonstrated through documented evidence of any of the following:

  • educated for 5 years in an English-speaking country; or
  • successful completion of an English Placement Test.
